Our Boarding Facilities
At Worawa Aboriginal College, our boarding facilities provide students with a nurturing ‘home away from home,’ offering unique opportunities for personal development and growth. Through boarding, students learn essential self-care skills, establish routines, and experience a sense of structure. It also fosters independence and an understanding of group dynamics and life skills, essential for young people as they navigate their journey towards adulthood.
Boarding at Worawa is about more than just accommodation; it's about creating a safe and nurturing environment that fosters a sense of belonging—a crucial aspect of any young person’s wellbeing. Feeling connected, valued, and supported helps protect against mental health challenges, enhances learning outcomes, and builds happier, more resilient individuals.
Our boarding environments are designed to cultivate this sense of belonging. We ensure that each student is heard, valued, and supported by our dedicated Boarding House Supervisors. More than just their qualifications and experience, our Boarding House Supervisors are chosen for their genuine passion for working with Indigenous youth and their empathetic, caring nature.
Nestled in the serene natural beauty of the Yarra Valley, our boarding facilities include five cottages, each housing up to 17 students with two Boarding House Supervisors. Our staff work together as a cohesive team to ensure consistency in the daily operations of the houses, applying fair and supportive procedures. Each cottage features a Sensory Room, where students can retreat for reflection and self-care. These rooms are designed for comfort and relaxation, with soft lighting, aromatherapy, and a no-phone policy to promote a peaceful atmosphere.
Meals are shared together in the dining hall, where all meals are prepared by our qualified chefs according to a healthy eating plan. This communal dining experience reinforces a sense of community and provides balanced nutrition to support our students’ overall wellbeing.
Worawa’s boarding program is a vital part of our commitment to nurturing each student’s growth—academically, emotionally, and socially—in an environment that truly feels like home.
