The gallery is named in honour of the late Sandra Bardas OAM, champion of Aboriginal education, avid supporter of the arts and a founding member of Worawa.
The primary purpose of the gallery is to raise income which is reinvested in the Worawa education program. The gallery is linked with the Worawa Creative Arts learning centre where students are educated in good arts practice and gain practical experience of preparing and exhibiting their work through the gallery.
The gallery facilitates effective community links between the school and communities that our students come from providing a market outlet for community art centres.
Scheduled art exhibitions provide the opportunity for the broader community to experience Aboriginal art and to learn about the work of Worawa.
The art presently on exhibition comes from the Warlukurlangu Art Centre at Yuendumu – some 300 km northwest of Alice Springs. The Gallery features art from the communities that the students come from and provides a ‘connectedness’ to the home community and family.
